About Nora Cucina
NoraCucina aims to use vegetables produced through farm work (Nora) in the fields and rice paddies of Niigata Prefecture to produce Italian cuisine (Cucina).
This is a restaurant that embodies that desire.
At this restaurant, we carefully prepare and serve produce grown with love by Niigata farmers.
Concept
A traditional Japanese house handed down over more than 150 years
The building that houses NoraCucina’s Abumi branch was once an inn for merchants.
Built about 150 years ago, it was moved to its current location in around 1970. It was used as a restaurant for many years before suddenly becoming vacant. Although was on the verge of being demolished, after laborious reconstruction, it was reborn into NoraCucina, making good use of its sturdy beams and pillars as well as its roof, shaped in a way unique to the “snow country” of Niigata.
The old fittings and the thick beams that run through the middle of the restaurant recall a “snow country” way of life that is rooted in Niigata’s climate.
The pride of the restaurant, its stone oven, was also unused with no place to go before being painstakingly restored and transported.
This restaurant represents the fruits of those efforts.
Don’t hesitate to come and have a good look around.
